Family Nurse Practitioner

Jena Burns is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) with more than 20 years of nursing experience. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from California State University, Chico, and her Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner degree from Frontier Nursing University. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and was recognized with the Clinical Excellence in Nursing Award from SSM St. Clare Health Center in Wisconsin in 2013.

Before becoming a nurse practitioner, Jena spent more than a decade specializing in diabetes care, education, and quality improvement. She has extensive experience helping patients manage a wide range of chronic health conditions, especially those with diabetes who use insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitors (CGMs), and complex insulin therapies. She is passionate about helping patients overcome challenges and reach their personal health goals and believes in partnering with patients to create personalized, evidence-based treatment plans that fit their unique needs and lifestyles.

Jena has led organizational-wide healthcare initiatives that significantly improved patient care and reduced hypoglycemic and hyperglycemic events across inpatient and outpatient healthcare settings. While she values improving systems of care, her greatest passion is working directly with patients and building meaningful relationships that support long-term health and wellness.

Outside of work, Jena enjoys gardening, traveling, participating in local community events, and supporting efforts that strengthen the community she is proud to call home. She shares her home with her husband, Josh, two sons, Milo and Mickey, and their beloved but spirited dog, Ginger, who has yet to demonstrate the qualifications necessary to participate in office dog shenanigans alongside the practice’s more well-behaved canine ambassadors.
